Meet Ginger
In case you want to know more about me & How I got here
I am a wife of 25+ years and mother to a grown daughter. We live in Dallas, and have an exceedingly cute dachshund named Ginger, who occasionally accompanies me when I visit clients. I grew up in West Virginia, earned a BA in Communications from WVU, and had a very successful career in recruiting and consulting for 35 years in Washington, DC, and Dallas, TX
The New York Times published an article on January 23, 2015, titled “Doulas, Who Usher in New Life, Find Mission in Support for the Dying.” It didn’t immediately change my life, but the idea stayed with me.
Then 2021-2022 came. I lost 4 family members and 2 friends in less than 24 months.
Loss prompts you to reevaluate your life. I had a career coaching people through the stress of changing jobs and hiring for critical corporate roles. Much of what I did was a combination of active listening and complex and/or practical problem-solving.
After realizing these are foundational skills for being an EOL Doula, it was time to learn how to be of service.
The original NYT article quoted Deanna Flores Cochran, RN. She was at the forefront of the End-of-Life Doula (EOLD) movement, not only being an early professional EOLD serving clients since 2005 (after a career as a hospice nurse), but also a founding executive of NEDA.
Deanna was the first person in the US to see the need for professional education in the space, opening a school in 2015, now called CareDoula Education (www.caredoulaeducation.com).
Deanna and I spoke for 2 hours, she accepted me into the school, and I have not looked back since then.
Let's talk and see how we can work together. Call/text (214)293-9079 or email dallaseolcoach@yahoo.com
